NMSU Askew Field Expansion

Located on the NMSU main campus on Locust Street west of Aggie Memorial Stadium, the design-build competition project included the addition of bleachers along the third base line, chair back seating for nearly 1200 seats, and a sun shade structure. The requirements of the competition included executing the entire project for under $900,000. The new bleachers had to match the existing structure and meet all ADA and building codes. The 11,400 s.f. sun shade is constructed of high density polyethylene fabric with ultraviolet stabilizers, withstand 100 mph wind loads, and be flame retardant with a ten-year warranty. The structure had to be capable of withstanding wind speeds of 150 mph (frame). Following the completion of this project, WDG Architects was also asked to redesign the Askew Field dugouts, team room, and add a second pressbox.
