Mostly due to her tireless community organization and relationship building, Wendy Clarke, WDG Architects’ Vice President, has been named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
One of the main projects Wendy chaired was the Taste of Las Cruces event held at the Las Cruces Convention Center on June 8th. The Taste of Las Cruces raised $16,000 for Casa de Peregrinos emergency food assistance program. The annual event, conducted by the Rotary Club of Las Cruces, the Mesilla Valley Rotary Club, and the Rio Grande Rotary Club, offers attendees a chance to sample the wares of a number of local restaurateurs in one location. Eighteen local restaurants participated. The funds raised helped supplement a matching grant of $20,000 through the Carl C. Anderson, Sr. and Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation. The combined totals will provide around 160,000 meals to hungry families in the Las Cruces community.
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of US$1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
It was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships.
Many other notable figures have been named as Paul Harris Fellows, including Mother Teresa, U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, U.S. astronaut James Lovell, UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, entertainer Pearl Bailey, and Jonas Salk.
